So, I've had this journal for about a month, and never wrote in here. A friend of mine, M&M as I like to call him, had one of these things and somehow talked me into making one. Well, I know how he got me to make it, I was buzzed and he promised that he'd take me to Gray's Papaya if I did it. What can I say? I'm a sucker for free food.
It's weird to write in a journal. I'm used to expressing myself through lyrics, but here? I don't know, it's a little different and something I need to get used to. My bestie is going to have to help me with this. Like those little icons? Yeah, I need some of those. I swear, I meet some of the most interesting people out here in NY. Some of them are real cool cats, but others? Eh... I met Jennavecia on the subway a while back. My dad always warned me about talking to people in the subway because some of them are crazy. But she was trying to figure out how to get to this music store and I was heading to the same spot so I told her she could follow me. Normally, I'd just put on my earphones and listen to music, but she seemed normal enough. But man, since then? We've been kickin' it a lot and going to this roller skating rink or just go out to Times Square and check out the guys.
Speaking of dudes...the quality in the male population is really starting to go downhill. I went to the West Indian Carnival Parade in Brooklyn...and why....did this man think that it'd be cute to approach me, wrap his arm around me like I knew him, and try to hit on me....WITH A STRING BEAN HANGING OUT OF HIS MOUTH?! Okay see...I have a problem with that. One: I need my space. If I don't know you, don't hug up on me like we're long lost friends. Two: Why in the hell, would you try to pick up a chick with a vegetable hanging out of your teeth? It wasn't like it was a small piece stuck in his teeth that couldn't been plucked out with floss. I'm telling you, this thing was about six inches long and he was chewing on one of the ends like it was a tooth pick. That....wasn't cute. I tried to give the man the signs that I wasn't interested, but he kept persisting! He even approached me three times using some stupid ass lines. Asking me if I wanted to go to his house and see how educated he was because he write poetry. Man...do I look like a chicken head? Hell no, get out of line mister. I literally had to give the guy the finger and walked off. Why'd I see him later that night hanging all over some broad wearing booty shorts and some skimpy top? And he was STILL chewing on that damn string bean. Disgusting.
Alright I'm done with my venting. The rain has lightened up and I'm going to head into Brooklyn and see my daddy and see what kind of trouble he's gettin' into yet again.

New York is definitely one hell of a town. That is why Natalia Andrujek moved away from her strict, traditional American Baptist family in Illinois the day after her eighteenth birthday and moved to New York City in hopes of becoming a famous singer. Everybody knew she was talented, but wanted to shield her from the negative side of fame that not many know about. After settling into a two between apartment with three other girls who also moved to New York in hopes of hitting it big, Natalia began performing small gigs such as wedding receptions for acquaintances, bars, and jazz clubs.
It was about two-years after having mediocre success, luck seemed to change when Natalia met twenty-five year old Easy E, also known as Emiliano Thompson. Emiliano Thompson was making a name for himself in New York in the music industry by managing up-coming artists and helping them reach their dreams of becoming famous and dreamt of owning his own record label. Coming from an Irish and Peruvian background, Emiliano was always surrounded by music; whether it was the classic sounds of the opera or the steady beats and rhythms of Latin music. One night, Emiliano ventured into the Golden Crest jazz night club and watched Natalia perform. From that moment on, he knew she could make something of her.
After finishing her set, Emiliano approached Natalia and spent nearly two hours talking with her and pitching out his ideas, feeling a naïve Natalia’s head with stars and dreams. She quickly agreed, thinking this was her big break. For two years, the duo worked closely together to promote Natalia. Starting out slowly by performing at jazz clubs within the city as well as out of state. Emiliano took Natalia to industry parties, introducing her to the right people where she began getting more recognition for her work.
One night, after a long day of work, Natalia and Emiliano went out for drinks to celebrate Natalia’s upcoming tour as an opening act. After having a few drinks, Emiliano escorted her home, but never left until the next morning. Emiliano and Natalia discussed the situation and agreed it’d be best if they keep business separated from pleasure. Emiliano allowed Natalia the opportunity to choose what she wanted, and she chose business, still seeing her name in the bright lights of Times Square. Over a month later, Natalia found out she was pregnant with Emiliano’s baby. Emiliano suggested that Natalia took the time off from performing so she could watch her health, but she insisted that she felt fine. Throughout the pregnancy, Natalia was on stage blowing the audience away.
On June 20, 1988 in New York’s General Hospital, Charlie Bjorn Thompson was born. Both parents were overwhelmed with joy and wanted nothing but the best for their daughter. Though, neither Emiliano nor Natalia had gotten into a relationship, Emiliano had suggested that it’d be best for their daughter’s sake, but Natalia still had her reservations about getting involved with a man who she looked to as her boss, and turned the offers down. Charlie was always surrounded by music. Staying backstage with her father while Natalia sang her heart out, or playing in her play pin while her father played the piano and Natalia sang new songs she had written.
Just before Charlie’s second birthday, Natalia was presented with the opportunity to sign with a record contract and record her own album. The issue was that she had to fly out to Europe to begin the recording process. Natalia brought it up with Emiliano, and he told her he couldn’t drop everything he was doing since his own label was on the brink of breaking ground. Also, he didn’t think the move would be good for Charlie either and told Natalia to reconsider until Charlie was older. Natalia agreed to think on the idea, but never said how long she’d wait. Thoughts kept going back to Natalia’s mind; the idea of her own record playing in every radio station, having her own concerts, and being the starlet she always dreamed of. Before the sun came up on Charlie’s second birthday, a frantic Natalia took Charlie to Emiliano’s apartment with a couple of suitcases, telling him that she had to leave due to a family emergency. Emiliano suggested he go with her, but she quickly denied him, stating she’d be back in a couple of days. Unfortunately, that was the last time in several years that Emiliano and Charlie saw Natalia.
Being left with full responsibilities of being a parent, Emiliano thought it’d be best that he put his plans for owning his own record label on the back burner and focus on managing entertainers so he could spend more time with his daughter and being the best father he could. Over the years, Charlie saw her mother maybe once or twice a year, received a few phone calls, letters, and packages. That didn’t upset Charlie much because she felt that her father was the only parent she needed because of how he sacrificed so much to make sure she was happy. Charlie wasn’t angry with her mother, but she wished she had more of a female influence on her life.
Now at the age of twenty, Charlie has graduated from Barnard College with a Bachelors degree in Music. Being raised around music all of her life, Charlie wanted to utilize some of her talents and make a career out of it. She found herself doing performances at jazz clubs and bars around the city, making herself quite the regular.
During the day, she teaches piano and singing lessons at local community centers. Charlie had been approached in the past as to whether she wanted to be a professional singer, but she declined. Deep down, she had a fear that once she got a taste of fame, she’d let it overwhelm her to the point where she deserted her family.
She wanted to make sure she was happy, no matter what. She didn’t need the glitz or glamour to enjoy what she did. She was content with how things were going with her life and never wished for anything different.
